Blackberry Township | 717 | 698 | 19 | 2.7% |
Blackberry Township, organized in 1909, was named either for Blackberry Lake and Brook or by railway section foreman Peter Larson for the abundance of blackberry briers in the area. The village in sections 9 and 10 was first settled by Scandinavians; Ora M. Harry, the first merchant, built a log store in 1899 and was the first postmaster, the post office operating 1899-1944; the Duluth and Winnipeg Railroad built its line through in 1889. A plat was recorded by Thomas and Luella Simmons in 1918.
